In the Great War (World War I) Harold died of wounds while serving with with American Expeditionary Forces in the Argonne Forest.
Born in Waterbury on October 9, 1894 to Edwin J. and Augusta Ann (Capewell) Archer. By 1910, Harold and his older brother, Frederick, had moved with their parents to Oakville. Harold is listed as a farm laborer and his father as a farmer, but brother Frederick is listed as a milk peddler, so the family most likely had a dairy farm.
Harold was inducted into the National Army in New Milford on May 22, 1918. He served a little more than four months before his death in France on September 29, 1918. His service record states that his death was in Monfaricon – most likely Montfaucon-d’Argonne, a village in northern France.
