The Streets of Watertown

What street do you live on? Do you know its history? Was it named for someone famous or for someone who lived there in the past?

On the map published in 1874 by the F. W. Beers Company, the streets in Watertown are not named, except for the roads that go to Litchfield, Middlebury, Plymouth, Woodbury, Waterbury,

In the coming months, we will add more stories about these streets and their history. If you would like to tell us about the street where you live, see: On the Street Where You Live.

Academy Hill – Cutler Knoll

Dalton St. – Hungerford Ave.

Ice House Rd. – Nova Scotia Hill Rd.

After my parents were married in 1930 they lived on Nova Scotia Hill Road. My dad was employed on the Mount Fair dairy farm in Watertown. My mother, Jeannette Parker, graduated from Watertown High School in 1926. After high school she attended the Danbury Norman School, where graduated 2 years later. I was excited to discover that the historical society included a copy of her school yearbook. I am curious to learn about the Mount Fair dairy farm. My grandparents also lived in Watertown. They were employed on the Buckingham Farm in Waterbury, and I have a few photographs the visually depict the labor-intensive chores farmers engaged in during the1920s. If the historical society has any ideas how I might learn more about these two farms, I would be very grateful. I do not have a website; my mailing address is 52 Greenhurst Rd. W. Hfd. CT 06107 & my e-mail is below.
